This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Harry Meserve. We will remember him forever.
Mr. Harry A. Meserve, a lifetime resident of Medford for 90 years and beloved husband of the late Dorothy R. (Campbell) Meserve passed away peacefully at his home on December 14, 2022. He was 90 years old.
Born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, in 1932, he was the beloved son of the late George H., Jr. and Freida (Peaslee) Meserve. Harry was an Army Reservist during the Korean War. He served six years in the Medical Reserves and two years active duty in the 803rd Medical Core as a Sergeant.
Harry was a graduate of Northeastern University (BS, Class of 1954) and earned his Masters degree from Boston University. He was a high school science teacher for the town of Arlington, served as head of the Science Department for many years, and developed a medical technology course which many of his students credit with their choices and career successes in the sciences. He was a gifted, talented, devoted teacher whose passion for education and his students and the sciences are still revered today by many of his students who have kept in touch all these years! He even played match-maker for several students! Whenever he was asked, Dad always participated in school events. He loved it. Many of them credit Dad with their choices and career success in the sciences and one student, Edie Widder wrote: “Your Dad had a positive impact on so many lives. According to the First Law of Thermodynamics energy can be neither created or destroyed and work is accomplished by converting one form of energy into another. Your Dad spent his life converting negative energy into positive energy. In fact he was a master at it – converting high school angst into laughter and learning – and for Dave and me some of our fondest memories.” She dedicated one of her Marine Biology books, “Below The Edge of Darkness” to him.
Harry was a man of many talents and interests. He was a musician, artist, photographer, carpenter, calligrapher, cartoonist, and a performance artist. He taught flute and loved playing his own compositions on the piano. Harry was a lover of all animals and worked in his garden alongside his wife. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Medford where he was very active in choir and church activities. His smile and sense of humor will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law: Debra and her husband Rev. Peter Beckwith of Medford, Linda and her husband Mario Gonzalez, Jr. of Lynn, Pamela D. Meserve of Medford, and Valerie and her husband James Leuchter of Center Barnstead, New Hampshire. Harry was brother to the late Robert L. and his surviving wife June Meserve of Kennebunk, ME. He leaves behind his grandchildren; Christina and her husband Duane Falk, Andrew and his wife Jill Beckwith, Amy and her husband Harrison Davey, Emmanuel Gonzalez, Justin Leuchter, and Jacqueline and her husband Michael Zimmer.
